To Go In The Dark | Family Workshop

  • The Guelph Outdoor School 733 Stone Road East Guelph, ON, N1E 3J3 Canada (map)

Registration for this workshop is open.

As the sun dips low, the forest begins to shift and change, and new mysteries emerge. Join us for an evening of playful exploration and after-dark magic for ages 8 and up. To Go In The Dark is Guelph Outdoor School by night, inviting families into a different way to experience nature.

We'll enter the woods together, get oriented to the space, and enjoy a game and fire-making demonstration. Around the fire, we’ll share stories, songs, and some of the old ways of getting to know the nighttime. Blindfolded games will sharpen our senses, while the stars above guide our hearts and footsteps. At dusk, we'll lean into some moon lore, call and listen for owls, and learn to navigate our way by starlight.

Session price: $25 per family member. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale options and select a coupon code that meets your financial needs.

This family workshop is suitable for stargazers ages 8 and up. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver, and a caregiver may accompany more than one child.

Grab a special young person in your life, and come join byron murray and Jen Britton for an evening in the woods full of deep noticing, connection, and fun through games, songs, and stories that help us see in and through the dark.

To Know the Dark

To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.
