Registration for this workshop opens on Friday, August 22nd at 9 am.
Believe it or not, the autumn aviation migration is already getting underway. The fall migration is the slower, less colourful counterpart to the chaos of spring. The birds tend to move slower and in bigger numbers, giving us more opportunities to connect and learn from them. By the time of this workshop, many birds will be on the move, and we'll be on the lookout for ducks, birds-of-prey, and songbirds such as sparrows. We'll also look ahead to the winter season, and ask what it's like for both birds and birders.
On The Wing is GOS' signature birding workshop, intended to guide and inspire you to deeper connection with the birds and nature in your ‘backyard’. Bringing over 15 years of bird-guiding and outdoor education experience, GOS's birding mentor Matthew Iles hopes to not only show you some resident and visiting birds, but to share ID tips and tricks, tools for listening to bird language, questions about bird track and sign, along with plenty of stories.
Session price: $85 +HST. Sliding scale pricing is available. Visit our Economics for a Changing World Page to review options and select a coupon code that meets your financial needs.
Since 2020, On The Wing has been rooted in curiosity, awareness, and inclusivity – intended for the absolute beginner to fully-fledged bird-nerd. Every feather found is a tracking mystery waiting to be unraveled. Just as much about connecting with yourself and others, as it is about knowing how to identify each species.
Dress for the weather, with sturdy footwear for a gentle walk. Snacks and water, maybe a hot beverage, recommended. Please feel welcome to reach out with any accessibility concerns ahead of time.
