On The Wing is back! GOS’ signature birding workshop returns to guide and inspire you on your bird-connecion journey. It's spring and on the edge of the city the river is alive with bursting tree buds and a chorus of bird song. Our birding workshop provides time and space to explore some of Guelph's finest urban nature areas, connect with other bird-nerds, and ask as many questions as you can think of (we can't guarantee we'll have all the answers, but we will likely have more questions to add-on!).

Bringing over 15 years of bird-guiding and outdoor education experience, GOS's birding mentor Matthew Iles will not only help you get your eye on that elusive warbler, but will share bird identification tips and tricks, tools for listening to bird language, and plenty of stories and anecdotes.

Our first session in April will set the foundation, and allow us to meet some of our hardy resident birds, alongside some eager early returning migrants. This May workshop will likely provide a flurry of colour with spring migration at it's most frenzied peak, whilst also giving us opportunity to track some early signs of nesting in our Eramosa River valley.

Session price: $75 +HST. If cost is a barrier, please see our Economics for a Changing World page for sliding-scale and mutual aid options.

Since 2020, On The Wing has been rooted in curiosity, awareness, and inclusivity – intended for the absolute beginner to fully-fledged bird-nerd. Every feather found is a tracking mystery waiting to be unraveled. Just as much about connecting with yourself and others, as it is about knowing how to identify each species.

Dress for the weather, with sturdy footwear for a bit of a hike. Snacks and water/hot beverage recommended. Please let us know of any accessibility concerns ahead of time, or contact us with any questions before booking - we can tailor our workshops to meet individual needs as best we can.
