Mentor In Training (MIT) Program
Summer 2025
Grow Your Leadership. Deepen Your Connection. Inspire the Next Generation.
The Mentor In Training (MIT) Program Summer 2025 is an immersive leadership development experience for youth ages 14–17 who are ready to take the next step in nature connection, leadership, and real-world work experience, Mentors In Training work directly with GOS instructors for an enriched experience focused on advancing naturalist skills, exploring the art of mentorship, and cultivating professional habits that empower youth to step into meaningful leadership roles — at camp and beyond.
Practice makes better :)
Training & Real In-Program Experience
The MIT program begins with three dynamic days of hands-on training with Senior Guelph Outdoor School instructors. MITs learn the foundations of mentorship, group facilitation, risk awareness, and nature-based leadership. Through games, skill-building, reflection, and team challenges, participants will build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of teamwork and community-building.
Following training, MITs step into mentorship roles during two weeks of Guelph Outdoor School Summer Camp. Under the guidance of experienced staff mentors, they’ll assist in supporting younger campers, practice leadership in action, and deepen their own understanding of nature, self, and community.
Program Highlights:
Leadership & communication training
Continued learning in Naturalist Skills
Mentorship skills in real camp settings
Nature-based games, skills & storytelling
Personal growth through reflection & feedback
Community-building with peers and staff mentors
This is a transformative opportunity for youth looking to stretch their edges, build meaningful connections, and become inspiring leaders in the outdoors.
The MIT Summer 2025 Program invites returning youth to deepen their connection with Guelph Outdoor School through an exciting new chapter of growth, leadership, and service.
This is more than a continuation of summer programming — it’s a launchpad for youth who are ready to lead, to listen, and to give back to their community with confidence and care.
