Overview

Guelph Outdoor School has provided direct, one-on-one mentorship options since 2012.

The direct mentorship format is designed to meet individuals where they are at, and leverages nature immersion experiences to achieve common occupational goals including: increased self-sufficiency, emotional regulation & anxiety reduction, sensory integration, fine and gross motor skill development, self-esteem & interpersonal skills.

One-on-One Mentorship sevices at GOS cannot replace other forms of clinical therapy. It is however, an excellent first (or complementary) option to address common childhood challenges centering around anxiety and /or depression, weight and body image, impulse control, difficulty with focus, apathy, anger and violent behaviour. Nature connection has a distinctly positive track record for mitigating a host of neurosis without recourse to pharmaceutical treatments or conventional therapy.

With an increasing number of physicians prescribing time in nature to address a wide variety of challenges and symptoms, GOS one-on-one sessions is a comparatively cost-effective and risk-free option.

Why One-on-One instead of regular weekly group sessions?

While GOS provides weekly sessions for groups, one-on-one sessions are a perfect avenue for young people with social anxiety, a history of violent outbursts, or other unique needs.

Generally speaking, weekly group programs are a great first option, and parents and caregivers are encouraged to consider this option first. We tend to see big changes even right away in our weekly nature immersion and mentorship progams.
